01
The Art and Science of Raja Yoga, Swami Kriyanada
The most knowledge of yoga from so many angels--postures, meditation techniques, and ways of living. This book is the most comprehensive book on helping you along your journey of anything that I've found.
02
The Path of Yoga by Georg Feurstein
A detailed discussion of prana and many of the more advanced aspects of yoga. This is not an easy read and requires much yoga study.
03
Wise Heart, Jack Kornfield
An excellent guide to developing a deeper meditation practice from perhaps the most insightful meditation teacher of his generation.
04
The Heart of Yoga by TKV Desikachar
A perfect read for those starting their yoga journey. Written by the son of Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga. It has an excellent mix of history, theory, and practice.
05
The Subtle Body, Tias Little
Excellent guide on uniting energies from various postures with other non physical aspects of yoga and life.
06
Be Here Now, Ram Dass
Cryptic book written by a former Harvard professor. Moving away from the past and not thinking about the future, and realizing that the now is perfect is so powerful.
07
The Book of Joy, Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu
A totally refreshing discussion between two of the worlds' foremost religious leaders in their 80s, sharing some of the wisdom they have learned over the past 8 decades. There is so much we each control, and our own attitude is everything.
08
Tibetan Jewel Tree, Robert Thurman
Amazing book on Tibetan meditation techniques that have changed my life.
09
Light on Yoga, BKS Iyengar
Excellent photo manual of 100s of poses and a detailed discussion of the power of each pose and the magic of yoga. Also the appendix includes some ideas for postures that may help with certain health aspects. This is not medical advice. Discuss these with your doctor.
10
Cultivating Qi, Jun Wang
Excellent overview of Taoist yoga and some postures that create amazing Qi.
I've attached my ROUGH notes on each of these books plus several others to this website. You can find my notes by clicking on the links above. These notes are not refined and should not be used without a doctor's supervision and an appropriate yoga teacher helping you.
